Data Matrix Specifications & Healthcare Use
- Data Matrix is an open ISO standard (ISO/IEC 16022). It requires an area-imaging scanner (cannot be scanned with older single-line 1D laser scanners).
- FDA UDI and GS1 healthcare labels need GS1 DataMatrix: it starts with a special FNC1 character and uses Application Identifiers (e.g. (01) GTIN, (17) Expiry Date, (10) Batch/Lot, (21) Serial Number). This studio makes plain ECC 200 Data Matrix, so it is not suitable for those labels.
